Depends, important jobs should be based on merit, such as doctors and engineers. Howecer, alot of places hire their employees based on nepotism and connections, and its sad to say but not everyone has those connections. So, for those jobs i think gender/race can be a factor so that they cane have those connections for their kids. Its not a race or sex thing but more of a class thing.

Although it is bad, the problem is that there are too many sexists/racists in power and if these quotas didn’t exist originally, people would only hire white men based on their race and gender so nothing’s really changed

On one hand i agree, on the other hand it does happen (not often but it does) that people DON'T get a job because of their race, gender or whatever. But overall i don't think this is a proper solution for this existing problem

A lot of work goes into finding qualified candidates over hundreds of resumes so it often happens that people who are interview are people who were referred by another employee. This practice doesn't find you a candidate based on merit but instead it is who you know. Also look at the USA right now. President inst qualified at all nor is his family and they have important jobs in politics

The US has this spot on. In many other counties such as my own, we have a work place quota as a way to advance the "rights" of certain individuals. I don't agree with this as it is positive discrimination. They say affirmative action isn't a thing in the UK but you see it in our public services, especially in the police.
